Not too long after this point, someone from Guerrilla Games came over and took the controller from me saying I’ve completed first chunk of the day’s gameplay. They treat these as her last days as an outcast in what is called Mother’s Embrace, and soon she will be headed for Mother’s Heart (a town-like place where most of the Tribe resides) for The Proving. Rost is worried that if (or when) Aloy wins this Proving, she will be part of the Tribe and will be forced to shun him because it is the law (and, despite him being banished, he still believes in abiding by the law). We find out that the Nora Tribe is about to hold something called The Proving in three days, an annual event where the so-called Matriarchs of the tribe will give the winner whatever he or she wants. The game jumps ahead again an unknown number of years to what seems to be an adult (or perhaps late teen?) Aloy. Article content We didn’t know exactly what the game would be, so we eventually spent three years trying to make sense of it all But because of Aloy’s frustration of being an outside and desire to explore, he decides it is time to begin training her to be a hunter and gatherer, though it’ll take “years” to do. When well-travelled Rost rescues little Aloy from an exit in the ruin, even he writes off the device she found as a “play thing” because he doesn’t realize what it can do. This device is now your competitive advantage in a world full of “machines” (essentially robotic animals that rule the world) and hunters. By pressing the R3 button, it activates a focus mode of sorts, which adds an overlay to the world with Tron-like colours that will highlight metal and show information when selecting objects or people. As you look for a way out, you come across a device that Aloy discovers can attach to her right ear like a Bluetooth headset. We finally get a sense that not all is normal in this world when Aloy falls into an old “metal world ruin.” It’s dark and futuristic looking, making for quite the juxtaposition to the bright and colourful world above ground. Aloy interacts with some children and adults from the Nora Tribe, who quickly shun her for being part of the outcasts (they aren’t even allowed to speak with her by law). Horizon Zero Dawn quickly jumps ahead six years with you controlling Aloy as a child and introducing you to the game’s basic mechanics. We are introduced to the game’s “post-post-apocalyptic” world with the game’s protagonist is Aloy, who we first see as an infant when a man by the name of Rost is given the task to raise her.Īloy has no mother and Rost is an outsider to the far-future Earth’s main Nora Tribe because he did something to be kicked out of the group indefinitely. My five hours of gameplay started right at the beginning of the adventure. Article content CONTENTS: The story: What’s this game even about?
